Why is my British driving licence not good enough to serve as ID in the US? I try ordering a beer at a restaurant bar and they tell me it’s not valid, and they continue by asking whether I have my passport. Of course I don’t, I’m coming out for a meal, not crossing any international borders. I’m almost 8 years older than I need to be to order a beer and I have identification. What is their problem? I’m surprised they would accept a British passport, it is issued in the UK - isn’t that the problem with my driving licence?! I act accordingly, I drink tap water for the rest of the night.
